WorshipersThese are the workshops that are usually included in the Seminar schedule. Occasionally, new workshops rotate in that cover very specific information. The basic workshops focusing on research/writing methods, archives, oral history, and celebrating anniversaries are always included.

Presbyterian History
Understanding the history of Presbyterianism in America helps the congregational historian see how a church's history fits into the larger issues. This session provide a brief overview of Presbyterian history from the Reformation up to the present day.

Oral History
Oral history is one of the fastest growing research tools in the historical profession. It is also one of the most enjoyable and rewarding ways to preserve history. This workshop will focus on interview skills and how to start an oral history project with persons (of all ages!) in your congregation.

Writing a Congregation History
This session focuses on the basics of historical research including research strategies, how to use primary and secondary sources, and writing tips.

Managing and Preserving Congregation Records
This two-part presentation focuses on how to organize, identify, catalog, store, and preserve congregation records. This session also discusses electronic records, the pros and cons of digitization, and microfilming.

Exhibit Planning
There is a right way and a wrong way to exhibit old Session books, Bibles, photographs, and artifacts. This workshop will teach basic exhibiting techniques for those on a budget.

Disaster Preparedness
Floods, fires and other natural disasters are a hazard to any building. These disasters can be even more devastating if the building holds valuable historical materials. This workshop will address how a local church can be prepared for a disaster and how to handle records and artifacts that have been damaged by the most common of disasters, water and fire

Celebrating a Congregation Anniversary
Every anniversary celebration committee deals with this basic question: "Where do we begin?!?" This workshop will give participants ideas for one day programs, weekend shindigs, and year-long extravaganzas that will stay within the budget! Examples from other churches will be used. Ideas and success stories from participants are encouraged and needed.

Using Technology to Provide Access to Congregation History Resources
Congregations use databases, word processing, websites, and other tools to make information about their history accessible and available. This workshop offers information about standards, processes, techniques, and content that will make your electronic tools sustainable and useful. Not available at some seminars.
