Christoph Saur (also Sower)

Born in Germany in 1694, Saur came to America in 1724, and settled in Germantown. After pursuing several other careers, he became a printer, acquiring press, type, and books from a failed Baptist (Tunker) enterprise. He published the first almanac in German in the colonies and the first European-language Bible printed in America. Sauer died in 1758.
