Researching Your Family: Using Microfilm via Interlibrary Loan

photograph of a nineteenth century familySome microfilmed church records are available on interlibrary loan from the PHS. First, contact the Society to confirm that we have microfilmed records of the particular congregation you are seeking. You will need to tell us:

  • Name of the church
  • Its location (city/town that would have been its mailing address)
  • Approximate dates of the records you need (For example: Nazareth Presbyterian Church, Anytown, Ohio, 1835-1855)

After we confirm that we have records that might be helpful to you, you should ask your local library to send the appropriate PHS office an interlibrary loan request for that microfilm. There is a service fee of $20.00 per reel ($30.00 per reel for loans outside the U.S.) collected by the borrowing library. The loan is for 30 days (42 days for loans outside the U.S.), and the film may be used only in the borrowing library. Our book and manuscript holdings do not circulate.
