Search for Church Records of a Living Person

Excerpt of baptismal certificateOur staff will search for records of baptism, birth, marriage, and church membership of living individuals only, at the request of that individual or his/her designated representative.

There is no general index of names in Presbyterian records. Before we conduct a search, you will need to tell us

  • the approximate date of the event
  • the name(s) of the person(s) involved
  • the location (city or town and state)
  • the name of the congregation (for example, the church where a baptism took place) so that we can tell you whether or not we have records that might be helpful.

Contact: Send e-mail to refdesk@history.pcusa.org

For the procedures in searching for records of deceased persons, see Family History introduction.
