PHS Shares Its Treasures -- At Home and Abroad

Gaelic bibleThe Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh recently received, on loan, a Gaelic Bible from the Montreat Bible Collection. Exhibited in the museumĖs "Scotland and the World" gallery, the Leach Family Bible illustrates the important role that religion played in the life of Scottish Presbyterian emigrants. This historic treasure will remain on loan until the end of 2000.

Henry Alexander Ogden, Rev. James Caldwell at the Battle of Springfield"Reverend James Caldwell at the Battle of Springfield," by Henry Alexander Ogden, a watercolor print from the Philadelphia office, is on display in the Library of CongressĖ exhibition entitled, "Religion and the Founding of the American Republic." Caldwell (1734-1781) was a Presbyterian minister who served as chaplain during the Revolutionary War. The exhibit can be viewed on-line at http://lcweb.loc.gov/exhibits/religion.
