New York, Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church

According to Hall’s Index of American Presbyterian Congregations, there have been two congregations in New York City called Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church. (These should not be confused with Madison Square Presbyterian Church, a separate congregation). The first Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church was reported in 1849 and dissolved in 1867.

A search of our catalogs shows official records of the dissolved Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, which contain genealogical information, deposited in our holdings:

  • Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church, New York, N.Y., Session records, 1848-1867. 1 volume. (Call number: V MI46.N48mas)

The current Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in Manhattan, New York, located at 921 Madison Avenue, was organized in 1839. This church changed names from Eleventh Presbyterian Church to Memorial Presbyterian Church in 1872, and then to Madison Avenue in 1887. We do not hold any records of this congregation. Madison Avenue is an active congregation, and may still have their records.  You may wish to contact them directly:
