Biographical Note / Administrative History
Arthur Leroy Carson was appointed as an agricultural missionary to Canton, China by the Board of Foreign Missions in 1921. In 1923 he was transferred to Weihsien in the province of Shantung, where he remained until 1926. He was appointed Director of the Rural Institute at Cheeloo University in Tsinan in 1931. In 1939 he was appointed President of Silliman University, a position he held until 1953.
Collection Overview
Record Group 59 represents the working papers of Dr. Carson used in the preparation of his book, Silliman University 1901-1959. It was published in 1965 by the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia. The materials are arranged by chapters in lieu of series and alphabetically by topics within the chapters except for general topics running through more than one chapter.
