Biographical Note / Administrative History
Alice Grace Hill, Presbyterian missionary to India and Pakistan, was born July 23, 1911, in Greensboro, Vermont. She graduated from Muskingum College (New Concord, Ohio) in 1934, and from Biblical Theological Seminary (New York, N.Y.) in 1938. Appointed by the United Presbyterian Church of North America Board of Foreign Missions in 1938, she remained in Pakistan after partition in 1947, and worked as an evangelist in Sargodha until her retirement in 1976. Hill died July 5, 1982.
Collection Overview
The collection chiefly consists of Alice Hill's diaries, which document her evangelistic work among women and girls in Sargodha. The brief diary entries reflect Hill’s day-to-day activities promoting adult literacy, such as administering Bible lessons and exams, distributing literature, teaching accounting, and visiting schools and hospitals.
Hill’s papers include photographs documenting gatherings of missionaries, rural agricultural projects, schools, hospitals, village life, travels across Pakistan and India, and eye surgeries at the Christian hospital in Taxila, Pakistan.
The audio recordings include sermons, hymns, interviews, and lectures.
The biographical scrapbook includes photographs, news clippings, diplomas, certificates, and a power of attorney document, 1973, relating to the Sialkot Mission.
