Past PHS LIVE: A Conversation with Elona Street-Stewart

February 18, 2022

On February 17, Executive Director Nancy J. Taylor was joined by PC(USA) Co-Moderator Elona Street-Stewart to discuss how the pandemic has impacted her service as co-moderator, how history informs the work of Street-Stewart and her fellow Co-Moderator Rev. Gregory J. Bentley, and what the church can do to lift up the voices and histories of American Indian members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).

Ruling Elder Elona Street-Stewart was elected Co-Moderator of the 224th General Assembly in 2020. A member of the Delaware Nanticoke Tribe, Street-Stewart has been active in racial justice matters on behalf of the church for forty years, focusing on mission development, denominational policies, and educational programs. She has chaired the Council on Church and Race and the Advocacy Committee on Racial Ethnic Concerns. Also, Street-Stewart was a member of the Relocation Committee on General Assemblies following the reunion of the northern and southern branches of what today is the PC(USA).
