First Presbytery Minutes
Adopt a Document: 1706 Minutes of the First Presbytery Meeting in the United States
One of the treasures housed at PHS is the minute book that records the meetings of the first Presbytery in America, starting with its 1706 founding.
While the book was in extraordinarily good shape for its age (good paper and binding last much longer than ephemeral electronic bits and bytes), we wanted to ensure its existence for the next 300 years. The Conservation Center for Art and Historic Artifacts performed a conservation assessment on the volume and recommended treatment, including cleaning, mending, re-sewing the binding, and housing the item in a custom-made box.
With the support of our generous contributors, the conservation work has been completed. Thank you for helping PHS care for this irreplaceable document of Presbyterian history!
