Attestations for Living Individuals
Our staff will search for records of baptism, marriage, and church membership for living individuals. The request must be from the individual or his/her legal representative.
Please note that we do not have a centralized index of names in Presbyterian records. As a result, in order to conduct a search, you will need to provide us with:
- the approximate date of the event
- the name(s) of the person(s) involved
- the location (city or town and state) of the congregation
- the name of the congregation (for example, the church where a baptism took place) so that we can tell you whether or not we have records that may be helpful. (Not all congregations have deposited their records at the society.)
To complete any search, we also require the signature of the individual whose record we are seeking. If we locate the record, we will provide an attestation, which contains the official seal of the society. We will inform you if we are not able to locate the record.
